Ascent Media Invests in Lab Services With State-of-the-Art Facility

Ascent Media has announced the forthcoming opening of an updated, state-of-the-art laboratory in the heart of Soho. Soho Film Labs constitutes a major strategic investment on behalf of Ascent Media, and confirms the group’s continued commitment to film and film restoration. The new facility will open its doors under new branding, officially on 4 August.

In the frame of it’s partnership with the CNC, organizer of the 2008 FIAF Congress, and in line with the subject of the Second Century Forum of this year, Éclair Laboratories decided to participate with a financial support of up to 25’000 € in the restoration of the following film:  Mueda, memoria e massacre by Ruy Guerra

Produced in 1979, three years after the independence of Mozambique, this film is a masterpiece of the generation and transmission of the collective memory, as well as a major testimony on the identity of the people of Mozambique.

The restoration of Mueda will be undertaken in 2008, at the Éclair Laboratories in Épinay-sur-Seine. The restored film shall be presented during the 2009 FIAF Congress in Buenos Aires.

Wild Film History

WildFilmHistory is the latest Wildscreen initiative - the natural home for such a collection, as the organisation’s founding fathers, Sir Peter Scott and Christopher Parsons OBE, were instrumental in developing many of the earliest wildlife television programmes. In addition, through running its international wildlife film festival, Wildscreen has over twenty five years' experience working with the greats of the wildlife filmmaking industry.
