Telluride Film Festival Honors Chapin Cutler's Commitment to the SHOW

Boston Light & Sound (BL&S) and its cofounder C. Chapin Cutler, Jr. join the ranks of Ted Turner, Leonard Maltin, UCLA, and HBO
in receiving the Telluride Film Festival Special Silver Medallion. Telluride presented the award to Chapin on Sunday, September 2 at this year’s festival for his significant contribution to the world of cinema.

Rockville’s Colorlab finds future in film preservation as firms switch digital

When video killed the radio star in the 1980s, it also did a number on Russ Suniewick’s business — processing motion pictures. Suniewick co-founded Colorlab, a film-processing firm in Rockville. When the company started in 1972, D.C. was
a major film town, with several large labs — Bono, Capital, Byron, among others — cranking out miles of government, public relations and educational films. Each of the network-affiliate TV stations had film-processing equipment. The phrase “Film at 11” was
literally true. News of the day was recorded by 16mm film cameras, and the film was rushed back to the station, developed, edited and images readied for broadcast late at night or maybe the next day.

A Vast Frank Lloyd Wright Archive Is Moving to New York

The Modernist architect Frank Lloyd Wright wasn’t a hoarder. But he did save just about everything — whether a doodle on a Plaza Hotel cocktail napkin of an imagined city on Ellis Island, his earliest pencil sketch of the spiraling Guggenheim
Museum or a model of Broadacre City, his utopian metropolis. Since Wright’s death in 1959 those relics have been locked in storage at his former headquarters — Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wis., and Taliesin West, in Scottsdale, Ariz
