From The Vaults, A Look At Early Indie-Movie History

"Edwin was storing the nitrate negatives in a vault," Ned Thanhouser says. "And he determined, in the '20s, that these films ... were really worthless. They were like pulp fiction; they were read and thrown away."

So Edwin, as Lloyd Thanhouser always told the story, piled those nitrate negatives up and put the torch to them.

Technicolor dreams of a bright future in digital cinema

Now, after 94 years of serving Hollywood, Technicolor Inc. has planted itself in the heart of Tinseltown, leaving its nondescript headquarters in an industrial neighborhood near Burbank Airport. Its new digs -- a modern, six-story structure at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street -- are a symbol of the company's latest transformation.

Robert Cushman dies at 62; photograph curator for film industry's library

The director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Margaret Herrick Library says he had 'an encyclopedic knowledge of movies that could not be matched.'

Technicolor ramps-up management at Thailand facility

Mumbai: Technicolor has appointed Paul Stambaugh as managing director at Technicolor's Bangkok laboratory and post-production facility. In 2004, Stambaugh first assumed the role of managing director at Technicolor Bangkok and oversaw the transition from Thailand's CineColor Lab.

Elektrofilm Taps Phillip J. Feiner

Veteran film industry innovator Phillip J. Feiner has been named COO/executive vp of Elektrofilm Digital Studios, for North America.

The executive will manage the postproduction business' Burbank facility, as well as oversee strategic planning and growth of the company, which also maintains offices in the Berlin, London and Munich areas.
